7 Surprising Reasons Your Motorhome and Camper Tires Fail

7 Surprising Reasons Your Motorhome and Camper Tires Fail

via 7 Surprising Reasons Your Motorhome and Camper Tires Fail.

With the 2015 camping season just around the corner for all of us (minus the snowbirds) you need to start thinking about more than mowing the grass, You need to start thinking about looking at your rv and if it is covered (I hope it is) then after you uncover the coach things like your tires HAVE to come into the picture of need to look at and determine if they are still safe to drive on??

Yes, I like so many seem to harp on this issue but we need to, as it seems WHY too many are not listening! Your tires on your rv take a huge beating being on an a rv (why you ask) well and rv is the ONLY dot certified vehicle that runs at 100% of its ability 100% of the time, yes you did read that correct and if you think that way when you are looking at your tires may be just may be you might think a little different.

Rv tires like all tires are made to be used, as the tire secretes a wax like substance that helps save it from UV exposure, so while it sits this wax does not come to the top and your tires loose protection, then your tire is only made to last a certain amount of time, as this is why you will hear people saying (check your DOT date code) your tires are made to last from 5 to 7 years from date of manufacture and any time after that time they could and most likely are a ticking time bomb. In addition, I call them a bomb since if you are standing next to a tire holding a pressure of 60 psi or higher it has the force of one!

So do you want to have the side of your pretty rv blown off buy a tire, I sure do not want that or the time and expense of having it fixed. The only tires I have had go bad with all the miles of have driven and it has been many hundreds of thousands of miles has been from road hazards never because of something I did wrong in trying to make sure me and my wife and all other drivers are safe.

SO I hope a few more people might consider this a helpful note in trying to save you money and time in the long run, and I will just say one more thing to explain how bad this issue is, I have my coach in a seasonal site (unfortunately) but I see a large number of weekend rv’s leave every Sunday morning while out for my morning walk, and I have to tell you take more than 75% of these coaches leaving are not to safe, they have very low tires and if I try and help most they will not even look all the get (it all good I am fine) or if a trailer and both tag or 5th wheel (tag is worse in numbers) that is being towed completely unsafe as the trailer is at such and angle that one axel is barley touching the ground, and I gave up saying anything to these folks as I have receive the same ( I am fine ) answer.

So please folks make it safe for you, your family and all the other family’s out on the highway just out doing their family things.

About smokeycamping

Well let's see have lived in NY for my whole life, have always loved the outdoors (as long as it is warm out) have always hated the cold, and like a dummy have stayed in NY. But now with my second try my wife, we have been camping now for well over 25 yrs. We currently own a 2010 Cedar creek silverback 35TS and can not wait to get out on the highways and see this great country we all call home. Hope to see every National park before my medical issue becomes too bad to travel. I love my African gray parrot (she is my baby) and have two dogs at the time brother and sister mutts, but love them all the same. Have always been a big Nascar fan, love computers (have a number of certificates to build and work on them) am trying to learn photography, enjoy light hiking, being with good friends and folks. country music, pop music and just being outdoors. So I hope someday to meet some of the great people who like what I like and post out there in some great campground somewhere in the country, till then I will keep posting and I hope you keep liking.
